After years of complaints, Hoboken has plan to get parking right | nj.com

Hoboken is launching a parking plan in March that city officials say will save drivers money and make parking more available, Mayor Ravi Bhalla announced.

Beginning March 4, several initiatives, which were approved by the City Council late last year, will go into effect. They include a new “virtual” visitor permit system, the reintroduction of the “Daily Debit Program” and dynamic market-based pricing.

The initiatives also include reduced short-term pricing in Garage B, D and midtown, and reinvesting revenue from the state’s first “Parking Benefit District” to fund economic development, streetscape, and infrastructure projects; and making Hop bus service free of charge.

“All of their ideas are completely stupid,” Ritesh Pathak, a Hoboken resident who said he’s well-informed about the new plan.
