App cabs propose surge limit | Telegraph India

Calcutta: App cab companies have said in response to a query from the state government that maximum surge in fare will be 2.9X – 2.9 times the base fare.

While Uber has stated that “it proposes to self-regulate the dynamic pricing multiplier between 1.9 and 2.9X”, Ola has made it clear that its maximum dynamic pricing will be 2.9X.

Sources in the transport department, however, said neither company had mentioned the base fares.

The department had on June 15 asked the two companies to provide it with details of the charges they levy, the surge price mechanism and the maximum surge.

The companies were required to send their replies by July 29. Ola had responded earlier, while Uber did so on Friday.

Sources said the state government move was spurred by a barrage of complaints against surge pricing.
