Avios to introduce “dynamic pricing” | Business Traveller

Frequent flyer programme Avios is to move towards a “dynamic pricing” concept from next year, its parent company International Airlines Group (IAG) has confirmed.

IAG announced the plans during its annual Capital Markets Day presentation, in which it said that there would be a “Progressive introduction of Dynamic Pricing from 2018”.

Full details have yet to be revealed – Business Traveller has asked the group if further information is available, and will post any response here.

It could see Avios – which operates as a travel rewards programme in its own right, as well as being the currency for BA’s Executive Club and the Iberia Plus scheme – move to a system where members pay a varying number of Avios for flight redemptions depending on demand. At present the scheme has set peak and off-peak rates depending on the date of flight, with two thirds of the year being off-peak.
