TAXI giant Uber has hiked prices by up to 500 per cent as stranded Brits try to make their way home.

Passengers in Birmingham and Bath reported huge price hikes as the ride-hailing app’s controversial surge pricing software kicked in.

The algorithm – which automatically activates at times of high demand – raised prices as hundreds of bus and train services were axed due to heavy snow.

One rider in the Midlands was charged £31 for a journey that usually costs £6 – an increase of over 500 per cent.
