Dan Best, a 1987 graduate of Fairview High School, has long had an interest in controlling drug prices.

The 49-year-old son of Ted and Marilyn Best now has a big platform to explore that interest.

Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar on Friday named Best, most recently a CVS Caremark executive, to serve as the Trump administration’s senior adviser to the Secretary for Drug Pricing Reform.

“Daniel Best recognizes what President Trump and I, and every American know: prescription drug prices are too high,” Azar said in a statement. “He has the deep experience necessary to design and enact reforms to lower the price of medicines that help Americans live healthier and longer lives.”

Best was most recently a vice president of industry relations for CVS’s Medicare Part D business.

This included the company’s prescription drug plans, Medicare Part D plans and other clients. His new job as has been referred to by some as drug pricing czar.

It’s a job that carries some extra significance in an administration that has pledged repeatedly to bring down drug prices, and to map out a plan to do so quickly.
