Farmed salmon prices in Scotland dive, Norway’s stay at two-year lows | Undercurrent News

Spot prices for Scottish farmed Atlantic salmon — and sales of Norwegian salmon into Scotland too — look set to take a tumble in week 44, one processing source told Undercurrent News.

Prices on the latter have dropped to £4.60-£4.75 per kilogram, for fish sized between 3-5 kilograms — “the cheapest it’s been”, he said.

This equates to around NOK 49.30- NOK 50.89/ kg.

For salmon raised in Scotland, he put prices at £4.90-£5.00/kg, down dramatically from an estimated £5.50-£5.60/kg in week 43.

“Demand is flat at the moment, but it can’t last,” he said. “Prices will no doubt move up towards Christmas.”

A second processing source, however, said they saw a dip of only £0.10-£0.15 from week 43’s prices.

For week 43 a source on the production side confirmed a dip in price, stating harvested salmon had turned out to be smaller than expected. They put prices at a range of £5.80-£6.40/kg, for fish sized 1-3kg.
