Gas prices: Marathon, Speedway to pay Kentucky in gouging lawsuit | courier journal

Attorney General Andy Beshear has settled a 12-year-old lawsuit for more than $22 million against Marathon Petroleum Co. and Speedway LLC over alleged price gouging.

The lawsuit, which was filed in May of 2007 by then-Attorney General Greg Stumbo, alleged that Marathon and Speedway violated Kentucky law by engaging in price gouging in gasoline sales following Hurricane Katrina. Then-Attorney General Jack Conway’s office amended the complaint in 2011, accusing Marathon of using the same tactic after the state experienced flooding.
