New iPhones set to be cheaper due to competition, claim analysts | uSwitch

Apple’s 2018 iPhoneS will cost less than expected, its has been claimed, as the tech giant responds to growing competition from Chinese mobile-makers such as Huawei and OnePlus.

That’s the word from analysts at TrendForce, who add that disappointing sales of last year’s iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are behind Apple’s change of pricing strategy.

They also cite the availability of cheaper components as a key factor in the company’s decision to cut prices.

According to TrendForce, the entry-level iPhone 9, which is expected to pack a more affordable LCD screen and leaked earlier this week, will start somewhere between $699 and $749 in the US.

UK pricing would likely be a match, still making the device as much as £300 cheaper than the current iPhone X.
