PXG’s New 0211 Irons: No Signature Weights And Pricing To Challenge Major Brands | Forbes

PXG’s latest golf club offering is a major departure – both in price point and looks. The signature tungsten and titanium perimeter weights are gone. So is the price tag of around $400 per iron. Those two things were perhaps PXG’s most visible differentiators from any other club manufacturer.

The company’s new 0211 irons, set to be released May 21, are priced closer to $200 apiece. They also have a much cleaner and more traditional look, with a badge on the back of the club face instead of a series of weights. While the pricing is still premium – a set of eight irons runs approximately $1,600 – the cost is closer to brands like TaylorMade, Callaway, Titleist and PING. It’s about half the price tag of PXG’s flagship irons: the triple-forged 0311 GEN2s.

PXG founder Bob Parsons said his research and development team had been looking at the possibility of creating a less expensive line of clubs for about three years. What really pushed the effort forward was last year’s release of the GEN2 line and the strong demand for PXG’s original GEN1 irons when they were reintroduced and the price was dropped.
