Uber has explained why its prices surged this morning – after the ECHO discovered fares had gone up dramatically during the Merseyrail strike .

We were quoted a price of up to £24 for a 4.3 mile journey – as Uber admitted its fares “were a lot higher” today, with rail services hit by strike action.

The ECHO has been investigating the pricing of taxis and private hire journeys around the time of the latest strikes on Merseyrail services.

This included a row between a passenger and a Delta driver on Friday – when rail staff had also walked out.

Train staff were out on strike again today and we wanted to see what sort of prices Uber would be charging in the city using its mobile app during the rail strike action.
