The State Fair’s David Tobias listed the bookings: A swap meet, a llama show, three weddings, and a Kansas Department of Corrections’ Halloween party.

“If you don’t mind waiting till after midnight when everything shuts down, then it is a great place to stay and very reasonably priced,” Standerwick said.

Adjusting prices

On weekends, a renter must rent the cabin for both Saturday and Sunday. Renting it for just one of those days is not an option. Lanterman does not think they should require a visitor to rent for both nights if they want the cabin for only one night.

Wildlife, Parks, and Tourism wants greater flexibility – called “dynamic pricing” – to adjust the rates to meet demand. Department officials think it could increase use of the cabins and generate more revenue.

For example, if the weekend was approaching and the fairgrounds cabin wasn’t reserved, under the dynamic pricing concept Wildlife, Parks and Tourism could post on Twitter and Facebook that the cabin was available for $50 a night, Lanterman explained.
